Four Masters 1-10 St Barnabus 0-5
13th April 2008
Holbrook’s
Four Masters got the new season off to a winning start with a comfortable victory over St Barnabus at Holbrook’s. After surviving an early scare when Barnabus hit the bar, Masters settled into the game and played some impressive football, without fully capitalising on the chances created.
The Coventry side forged a two point lead with points from Declan and Brendan Harkin before Barnabus responded with a long range free from O’Hara. With half time looming it looked as Barnabus were going to make it to the interval only a point behind, however a powerful Ciaran Langford solo was brought to an unceremonious end when he was certain to score. Declan Harkin duly converted the resulting penalty to give Masters a deserved four point cushion at the break.
The second half was a much more open encounter, and masters took full advantage with a series of fine scores Langford, Armstrong and Ryan, contributed two points a piece and the scoring was completed by Ogelsby and Danny Harkin. However the main credit for the victory must go to the backs, and in particular the half back line of Ogelsby, Feeney and man of the match Sean Langford, who put in magnificent performances to limit the visitors to five points and only one from play.
